Check conditions first
Winter visits can bring cold, wind, rain, snow or ice. Review the forecast and the Conservancy’s visitor information before setting out; adjust your plans when conditions are poor. Attraction and restroom hours can differ from general park hours.
Dress for your route
Wear layers and footwear suited to the forecast, especially if your plan includes walking. Keep phones charged in the cold and leave time for indoor breaks outside the park. Paths and steps may become slippery; choose a route appropriate for everyone in your group.
Ask about your booking
Tour operation and equipment depend on the operator and conditions. Before reserving, check your selected listing’s weather and cancellation terms and ask whether the ride can accommodate your needs. Do not assume that blankets, weather covers or a particular route are guaranteed.
A winter stop and a practical check
The Conservancy’s winter guide highlights Bethesda Terrace’s tiled Arcade near 72nd Street and the Arthur Ross Pinetum near 84th–86th Streets. They are in different parts of the park; use a map and choose what fits your time and conditions.
The Conservancy running guide says most drinking fountains are switched off in winter, with a limited number operating year-round. Carry water and verify facility availability rather than depending on the first fountain you see.
