The Mall and Literary Walk in Central Park

Explore the tree-lined promenade and its connection to Bethesda Terrace.

Find the Mall

The Mall runs through the lower middle of Central Park, roughly from 66th to 72nd Street, ending at Bethesda Terrace. Use the Conservancy visitor map to find entrances and neighboring attractions.

What to look for

The promenade’s rows of American elms create a long, shaded space for walking and gathering. Literary Walk is associated with the statues along the southern portion. The park was designed as a place for people to meet and enjoy the landscape; the Mall remains a social space.

At the northern end, continue to Bethesda Terrace to see its architecture and views toward the Lake. Check the Conservancy’s description of the Mall for more history and current visitor details.

Plan a visit

Allow time to walk, take photographs and share the path with other visitors. A pedicab tour’s route and stopping points vary; ask the operator if visiting the Mall is important to you instead of assuming a stop is included.
